Fireclay and Laterite

Fireclay

Fireclay is a clay-rich sedimentary rock that contains a high percentage of aluminum oxide, which makes it very resistant to the effects of high temperature. Fireclays are used in the manufacture of bricks, blocks, retorts, crucibles, mortars, masses, pottery, floor tiles, etc. Low-grade material is used for manufacturing heavy sanitaryware, such as, pipes and bathtubs.

Laterite

Laterite consisting of oxides of iron and aluminum plus other substances in smaller amount, is a residual soil, also usually reddish, produced through weathering of various kinds of rock. Ferruginous varieties are used for construction. Clay rich variety is used in chemical industry, agriculture, building blocks and waste water treatment.
